The Corinna will leave Dunedin for New Plymouth, via ports, to-day. Captain E. B. Atwood, of Wellington, has been appointed surveyor for the port of Wellington for the New York Underwriters 1 Association. This is an important appointment, as most of the bij; shipping companies are interested in that association. The new steamer Waipu, built at Dunedin for the Northern S.S. Company, left the Otago port last week for Auckland. The vessel is intended for the Waipu trade. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line, which have launched out on an extensive building programme during the past four or five years, have just placed an order with Messrs. Hawthorne, Leslie ,and Co., of Hepburn-on-Tyne, for three twin-screw up-to-date passenger steamers of 10,000 tons each.
