ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taranaki .Acclimatisation Society was held last evening. The president (Mr. A. Bewley) occupied tb« chair. In moving the adoption of the report end balance-sheet, the president remarked that the Society's finances were in a satisfactory position, and when all monies for licenses came to hand there would be a fair credit balance. The fishing season had been a good one, and although some of the rivers had not given good ang'ing, other streanw had mueh improved. The Society had to thank the caretaker (Mr. Seal), for the excellent work carried out at the hatcheries, the number of trout raised being in excess cf that of any previous year. Mr. J. E. Wilson, in seconding, remarked that he would like to see more done in the matter of game-raising. i?hootists were certainly deserving of more attention He recognised, however, that the rearing of pheasants was a costly business, and even if a good number of birds were reared, there was pratcically no ewer for the game in the settled districts. He was disappointed that more fishing licenses wero not taken out. Mr. Grover expressed the opinion that it might be oossible for the Society to raise some spcrting birds other than pheasants. (Vifornian quail were not easy shooting, and he thought' that if some other bird? of the partridge or frouse species could be introduced it would perhaps help the shooti3ts to obtain better stort.
