KEWALI. ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual convert in connection with the Newall Sclioo} was held on Friday, lUtli May. and the programme, provided bv the scholars, local adults and friends from Okato and Pihania, was appreciated by a large and attentive audience. Alter the National Anthem had been sung, the following items were well rendered:—Overture, Miss Millicent Jones; song, Mr. Stuart Cassie; recitation, Miss Marjory Raven: duet, Messrs L. Corkill and \V. Cook; dialogue, "Raibbits." children; song, Captain Hawkins (encore, recitation); dancing steps, , children; song, Miss J. Cassie; song and chorus, "The Homeland's Call," children; recita-, tion, Mr. Bailey; song and chorus, Miss Eleanor Ducket'; recitation, Master H. Umnball; song, Mr. Cook; recitation, Master Ted Smith; overture, Miss Mary Duggan; song, Mr. L. Corkill; recitation, Master John \eilsori; song, Captain Hawkins (encore, recitation); song and chorus, Miss Ruth Harding; duet, Messrs L. Corkill and W. Cook; dialogue. "Tne Dolly Show," children; song, Mr. S. Cassie; recitation. Master Sam Jones; song, ''What Do You Think of Australia Now?" children; recitation. Master Ken. Ducker; ''Good-night," children. Mr. Rumbail, the chairman of the school committee, in a few well-chosen words, commended the generosity of the children, who voted the proceeds, which are usually given to their prizes, to the Y.M..C.A. funds, and thanked all who bad assisted in making the evening such an enjoyable one. The accompaniments for the various items were played by Mrs. .1. Ducker and Miss J. Cassie, and the sum of £O, together with the children's April pocket-money (12s fld), will be forwarded to the branch secretary. Colonel Newail's letter of thanks to the settlers was read, and the gallant soldier will be pleased to bear that although recently the serenity of the district has been slightly disturbed the habitual calm once more reigns.
