OPUNAKE. FATALITY IN THE BAY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) During the unloading of the s.s. Arapawa in the bay on Sunday, the ship's boat, manned by three sailors from the ship, which was assisting in conveying the cargo from the ship to the wliarf, capsized, and one of the sailors, named Loder, lost his life. The boat at the time was loaded with four barrels of boer, one barrel of oil and two crates i-.f iron. A wave struck the boat and snipped a quantity of water. A second wave upset the boat, with the above result. The lifeboat from the Arapawa put out to the rescue, as also did the boat from the wharf. The two men were rescued from the bottom of the upturned boat and taken on board. The survivors have not been ashore, so that particulars from the survivors are hot available as to whether deceased even rame to the surface or was seen by them after the boat turned. The crew'of the Arapawa did all'tint t was possible to pick up any signs of the body, the boat waiting until late on Monday afternoon. The foreshore has been searched by parties, but so far with no result. Deceased's mother (Mrs. Knowles) is living in New Plymouth, and his stepfather is a member of the crew of the Arapawa. The local canvasser for the Wounded Soldiers; Fund (Mr. Sorrensen) is meeting with good results. The Rev. Mr. and Mrs. dimming* are holding revival meetings in the Presbyterian church. The Oaonui social in aid of the Egmont Nursing Association will clear about £l3. Mrs. J. Young (secretary) is to be congratulated upon the success cf her efforts. "" i
