A communique says: We dispersed a ?troiiff hostile reconnaisauee between the Oise and the Aisne, and several German attempts to capture a redoubt in Avocourt wood were defeated with very senilis losses. We surprised a trench northward of Hill 287, at three o'clock in the morning, killing and taking prisoner the occupants. .Simultaneously, after a sanguinary fight, wc seized a strongly organised fort on the north-eastern slope of Hill 304. Our aeroplanes bombed an important munitions depot between Haucourt and Avocourt, southward of Sedan, and also the Sedan, Metz, and SaMons railway stations.
