MIDNIGHT .' TTACK. RaTD ON SETTLER'S WHARE. GAY TIMES ON THE N ft WALL ROAD. Newall Road, the loca'ity which the Magistrate recently suggested Would be "a cheerful neighborhood to live out of," was the scene of a serious disturbance in tile midnight hours of Tuesday, and as the outcome of complaints which a resident made to the New Plymouth police yesterday, it is probable that more will be heard of the incident in the Police Court.

The Magon family. -wJio resfde,on the Newall Road, and' some of their property, appear to have been the centre of the trouble. It earn:' to the knowledge of Charles Mngon during the day that a party of men proposed to pay a midnight visit to his son's ivliare, with the object of'wrecking it, and he accordingly set about to equip a small force to repel any attempt at destruction. It is stated that guns and other useful weapons of defence were provided and a scheme wis decided upon to protect the whare at night, and to give the raiders an unexpected reception.

Well-equipped and wide-awake, Moon's force prepared to defend the j ivhare, and as it neared midnight the ' Approach of the raiders, ten sturdy young men, was annouuu.d. The miscreants approached the v.'hare and proceeded to surround it h hereupon Magon and hi 3 friends also indulged in a little Burroundfing business. Seeing that they were expected, the raiders seal' red and four escaped, but without any difficulty the oth.'i' six men were ■apUired. The raiders are reported not to have "shown fight," :<e.d the incident was a much quieter affair than had been .nticipted.

The names of all the ten men liavf been obtained, and it is reported they ire all well-known residents from W'area, Puniho, aiul Oaonui.
