COST OF LIVING By Telegraph.—Presa Association. Wellington, Yesterday. The following resolutions were passed by the Post and Telegraph Officers' Conference:—That it is absolutely necessary, with the enormous increase in the cost of living, that a war bonus he granted to officers; that the Government he urged to impose drastic taxation on war profits; that the Post and Telegraphs Act be amended so as to allow of officers augmenting their incomes by accepting outside employment to meet the extra cost of living, provided their departmental duties do' not suffer.
The Conference also passed resolutions in favor of female employees receiving the same pay as male employees, and the compulsory retirement at 00 of all officers who have had 40 years' service. further Resolutions. Wellington, Last Night. It was resolved that the maximum of class VII., clerical division, be raised to £245, to permit officers to rise to the proposed maximum without examination restrictions other than the present departmental efficiency tests; that the maximum of Class VI., be raised to £290, the present difference ( £ls) between the rank and fiv and executive officers not being sufficient recognition of the latter's responsibilities; that the sorters' class be aboUAed; that the maximum for letter carriers and post office messengers be raised to £200; that lodging allowances be abolished, alid a corresponding increase in salary be granted all officers, whether stationed at or away from home.
