THE ANZACS
A RAIDING EXPERIENCE. Times and Sydney Sun Services. London, May 10. Mr. Beach Thomas, writing from British Headquarters, describes the Anzacs' experiences of trench raids. One front line trench was bombarded furiously for HO minutes, a moderate flank bombardment following, and the debris half-filled the trench. The wire entanglements were blown up, and the raiders dashed across the intervening space and picked up the relics of t'he enemy. They were usually in the enemy's trenches minutes!
"Anzacs" will probably be established as a classical historical title, and is adopted in official reports. As soldiers, they have to learn tile duty of keeping out of sight of the sharp-eyed German observers. MEDALS TO BE GIVEN Ti'me9 and Sydney Sun Services. Received May 17, 5.5 p.m. London, May 10. Mr. Fisher visited, at Wandsworth Hospital, 240 Australasian wounded from France, who arrived yesterday. They were admitted with the utmost expedition and received every comfort. This is the second batch of the same number received since they began fighting on the West front. Most of them have shell and shrapnel wounds, but a considerable number suffer from rheumatism. The ;Anzacs suffered from cold and wet while fighting behind the parapets, because the trenches were flooded.
