TURKS' EFFORTS TO STEM THE ! TIDE. Athens, May 15. The Turks are alarmed at the Russian advance, and great efforts are being made to stem it before Erzingan. Many lines of trenches have beers cut, but the Turks chiefly relied on 4.7 in. and Tin. gung. The transit of artillery is difficult, but thousands of Christians liave been forced to repair the Sivas-Eraingan road and to build parallel roads. Many German officers are present, with a stiffening of German troops. Defensive works at Diarbokir are being feverishly pushed on, as the capture of the headwater of the Tigris will cut off Bagdad's supplies.
