THE SOLDIERS' CLUB. '' The Patriotic Committee met last night. Present: Messrs. J. E. Wilson (chairman), (',. Carter, YV\ J. Chaney, C E. Bellringer, >. Clark', D. J. Hughes', J. H. Hill, .J. Paton, F!..Goodacre, and Captain Hartne.;. Apologies for absence were received from Mr. L. A. Nolan, Captain Allen, and the Revs. A. H. Colvile and A. Jj. Chanpell. In regard to the proposed Soldiers' Club, Mr. Ooodacre retorted that the sub-committee appointed to confer with the Mayoress Mrs. C. H. Burgess) on the matter had done.su, but no definite arrangements hud yet been made. It was proposed to provide suitable rooms in town for a club, and although no place had yet been mentioned, he was confident that the proposal would meet with every success. It was the wish of Mrs., Burgess that the lsdies' committee should work <n conjunction with the Patriotic Committee, and she suggested a club committee consisting of three ladies and three representatives of the Patriotic Committee. Mr. Clarke said the returned soldiers should have a big say in the question, and he thought they •hculd have' a representative on the committee. The returned soldiers iiow had an organised body and in providing a club for them their views should be ascertained. Further action was postponed in the meaiiil..... DONATIONS TO THE BUNDS. Mr. J. Paton (New Plymouth, manager of the Nev. Zealand Insurance Company), notified that the amount voted some months >igo by the company for patriotic purposes wouic be distributed through the various patriotic fund*. The first instalment amounting to £llß 13s 4d was now available, and In handing this to the committee, Mr. Paton said he had been requested to make a strong rccommtmdation (hat one-half be forwarded to the Y.M C A. catering for the comforts, etc., o; New Zealand soldiers—The rontribul'on was received wthi thanks, nnd it was decided to forward half the .imoimt t<. the Y.M.C.A. Mr. J. Clarke forwarded a cheque for £6O on account of th'j recent Fete of Nations held :n the Theatre Royal. The balance would be forwarded later, GIFT 10 THE Y.M.C.A. The treasurer reported that the public appeal for funds for the Y.M.C.A. had been responded to well, A sum. of £250 had been received, and this would be subsidised £ for £ by the committee, It was decided to fevward '£soo to the Y.M.C.A.
