The death occurred at Kumara on Friday of Mrs. Eudkiif mother of Mr. A. R. Rudkin, of Otaki. Deceased had been in failing health for ,some time.

Mr. Cowie, o? tlie Bank of New Zealand staff at Otaki, lias been transferred to Greytown. Mr. Dc-mpsey has been appointed to fill the vacancy.

Passengers by the Wellington express yesterday morning included Mr. J. Vigor Brown, M.P. (of Napier), Mr. T. S. Weston 'of Wellington), and Mr. Cecil Gray, who ha 3 gone to camp to join the Dental Corps. The death occurred at New Plymduth yesterday morning of Mrs. Wylie, wife of Surgeon-Major D. j>. Wylie. Mrs. Wylie nas been an invai'u. for some time, hut she made a large circle of friends who will deeply regret hdr death. Major Wylie is with the New Zealand troops.

The death *s anno) need of one of Wellington's best-known citizens in the person of Mi. Henry Kember, accountant. Deceased was born in Surrey, England, eighty years ago. As a young mail he travelled through portions of Europe, more especially Spain, and afterwards went to America, where he was interested in mining and/ the production of cotton. In the 'sixties the paralysing of the cotton tradj that was the cause of ruining many persons included Mr. Kember p.rjong the number, and in 1870 he left America a»d came to New Zealand.
