HELPING THE WOUNDED.

OKATO DISTRICT'S RESPONSE. Settlers of Oka to and surrounding districts deserve to be congratulated on the success that has attended the | patriotic stock sale, wlnrli was held vosterday at the Stony R : .u !r Yards in*aid of the Sick and Wounded Funds. The Okato, Tatavaiamaka, and Puniho districts were systematically canvassed and donations of stock of all kinds, poultry vegetables, wheat, and of 'cash tame forward freely, so that as the outcome it is expected that over ,C4r>o will be realised. There was a record attendance at the sale, and bidding was very spirited. Some animal.- were put up again and again, whilst practically everything realised ove- market value, buyers recognising the spirit in which donors had made the gift, i.e., that it was for the good of the cause. Quite a number of the donors have sons at the front, whilst in two caws the donors were enlisting, and in a third the owner of a horse sold has been at the front for months. The weather was fine, though a keen wind gave one some slight idea of the discomforts our lads were braving for us. Mr. Nev/tm Kin» mounted the rails, and in his customary breezy manner'opened the sale, remarking that he expected them to bid mor» for old times' sake.
