(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, May 16.
At the Borough Council meeting last evening, Cr. Hancock's motion that the water rate be increased to ninepence, and that the special rates for water loans be not collected, was, after discussion, carried.
Tariki senior cadets played a football match yesterday against the Stratford School (players under 10st.), and after a close game the local school won by 9 points to nil.
Mr. J. Batey, traveller for the Simplex Milking Machine Company, met with an accident this morning. It appears the rubber handle grip on liis motor cycle broke, and lie was thrown violently to the ground, receiving cuts and bruises on the head.
The Anzac Minstrels, who held such successful performances on Easter Monday in connection with Soldiers' Day, have reorganised the troupe, and, with the addition of several lady vocalists, their future performances will be even better than those of the past. ' The troupe are giving performances for patriotic purposes only, and already several country districts have requested them to appear.
Mr. G. E. Bowers, the recently-appoint-ed Borough Council Inspector, has com-menced-his duties. Judging by 'do number of cattle wandering on the roads, and Inotor and other cyclists using the footpaths, his time will be fully occupied for some weeks.
The arbitration case in connection with" the valuing ot the Stratford Electriial Supply Company's plant and undertaking, regarding the sale of the same to the local Council, will commence early next month.
