The announcement has been made that butter may not be exported except by consent of the Minister for Customs, The Minister, added Mr. Massey, will ba guided by the reports concerning supplies and liy the state of the local market.

It was reported in the city yesterday that a rise of Id per lb was probable, but the prohibition of export may have a steadying influence. The cool stores at the various ports are stated to contain about 00.000 boxes of bijAter at the present time, and in the light of this fact the exporters are not likely to miss the significance of the Government's action. I'he prohibition of export, except by consent of the Minister, is a clear indication that the local price has to be kept down,
