'■»> EGMONT RACING CLUB. LEONTA WINS THE BIG RACE. The weather was fine, but windly, for the second day of the Egniont winter meeting. There was a good attendance. The totalisator put through £18,563, being £1209 10s in excess of the corresponding day last year, and the total for the meeting was £30,357 10s, an increase of £3llO 10s. The following are the results:— KGAMUTU HANDICAP, of 100 sovs.; second 10 sovs. from the stakes. Six furlongs. 4—"Mr. Egmont's" b.g. Coropet, by Coronet—Clompett, 4 years, 9.1 (C. Price) 1 2—Mrs. M. Glenroy momentarily showed in front, but at the end of a furlong Tyson was well clear of Astof and jfirana, with Glenroy heading the ruck. Tyson was still clear of Astor at the home bend, and Patronale had run into third place. In the straight Tyson tired badly, leaving Astor to win very comfortably by a length and a half. Tyson just lasted long enough to beat Patronale by a neck, and Depredation and Veto were close up. The veteran LO3 Angelos finished fifty yards behind the others. Time, 1.20. MANAWAPOU HANDICAP HURDLES, of 125 sovs., second 15 sovs,, third 10 sovs. from the stakes. One mile and a half. I—F. Lew's b.g. Patronymic, by Patronus—lonic, aged, 10.2 (A. Ward) 1 4—J. R. L. Captain Dick led off from Draft and Patronymic, with Golden March in the rear. Passing the stand the order was the same, but at the six furlongs post the favorite ran to the front Mid was never afterwards headed, winning very easily by six lengths from Captain Dick, who was four lengths in front of Golden March, the latter just heading Draft on the post. Winner trained by H. Battel. Black Ada and Maid o' Gowrie were the first to find their feet from a splendid send-off, and showed the way to a bunched orowd passing the stand. At tho six furlongs post the same pair were in front, with Sylvan Dale and Henry Clay next Four furlongs from home Henry Clay and Maid 0' Gowrie were together in front, and as they came into the straight Henry Clay forged ahead. At the distance Henry Clay looked all over a winner, but Silenus, who finished at a, great pace, came to light over the last fifty yards and won by a length and a half. Henry Clay beat Maid 0' Gowrie by a similar margin, and Regio and Ticino followed in that order. Time, 1.58 4-5. THE SHORTS HANDICAP, of 100 sovs.; second 10 sovs from the stakes. Five furlongs. I—G. Brown's br g Royal Chef, by Coronet—Cuisine, 5 yrs, 8.11 (R. Brown) '. 1 5—A. Alexander's ch c Bisogne, 3yrs, 8.8 (H. Young) , 2 4—"Mr. Egmont's" b g Coropet, 4yrs, 9.7 (inc. 51b pen.), (C. Price) .... 3 Also started: 3 Hushman, 9.11 (Emerson); 7 Zion, 8.2 (L. McDonald); 9 Bivouac, 7.11 (inc. lib over), (C. Brown); 2 Revocation, 7.9 (A. Reed); 10 Avena, 7.4 (B. After some delay the field was despatched to an even start, Pergola showing out from a bunched lot. At the end of a furlong Royal Chef had run into the lead followed by Zion and Pergola. Royal Chef was still in command as they swung into the straight, and running on kindly, won by :i length from Bisogne, who finished fast after being stopped inside the distance. Coropet finished very fast, a length way, third, and Pergola was fourth. Time, 1.62-5. MAN ALA HANDICAP (Open), of 200 sovs; second 15 sovs; third 5 sovs from the stakes. One mile and a distance. 2—T. Bristol's b g Leonta, by Conqueror—Fairwind, 6yrs, 8.13 (C. Price) ) 1 4—R. Moetahuna's br m Ineuru, aged, «.12 (B. Morris) 2 6—N. Tilley. Ineuru dashed away in front, followed by Want, Ratana, and Crawford, with Leonta whipping in the field. The same order obtained passing the stand, and along the back Ineuru and Want were together In the lead, Leonta improving his DOlttion gradually. Just before

turning for homo little separated Ineuru, Want, Harbor Light, and Lconta, and the quartette Svere in a bunch as they turned into the straight Lconta was on the outside, but finishing very strongly won by a length from Ineuru, who beat Harbor Light by three lengths.
