The Karu, which was to have left Moturoa for Greymonth last evening, did not leave on account of the gale, THE SQUALL. , The underwriters are still hppeful of salving the Squall, which went down off the East Cape in 16 fathoms of water (writes the Te Araroa correspondent of the Poverty Bay Herald). Arrangements have been entered into between the insurance people and Messrs Waller and Lewis, a firm of divers, for the salving of ttie cargo. The auxiliary oil scow Kahu (Captain Ron") has been chartered by the latter firm, and the work of searching has been going, on whenever opportunity offered. The divers state that on one or two occasions a submarine descent'has'been made, but the bottom' of the sea was found to be studded with pumice rocks, some 30ft in height, and most difficult to work. The vessel has a complete outfit of salving gear, including a double set of diving apparatus. The divers are Mr. Waller, who salved 160 tons of lead from the Star of Canada, and Mr. Lewis, who has had much naval experience.
