A recent English newspaper received in New Plymouth contains a message from its Boston correspondent stating that by an order of the Italian Government, steamship companies operating between the United States and Italian porta are obliged to insure all Italian steerage passengers against loss in case of attack by German submarines in the Mediterranean. Every male and child passenger Ims to lie insured for 15,000 dollars, with about 500 dollars insurance on the personal effects of each passenger. The premium is said to be about 7.5 dollars per head. The Huddart-Parker cteamer P.iverina is maintaining her reputation as the fastest of the intercolonial steamers at present in commission. Of late she has accomplished many excellent steaming feats, the latest of these being on the rur. from Wellington to Sydney. The vessel left Wellington shortly before 6 o'clock on Thursday evening, and reached the South Wales port at 0.30 o'clock on Tuesday morning. The time thus occupied was approximately three and a-half days.
