HARBOR BOARD.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Harbor Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs, ,T. B. Connett (chairman), E. Dockrill, C. E. Bellringer, D. J. Hughes, and E. Maxwell. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., for the duration of Parliament. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. ' The principal business was the election of 'chairman and Mr. Bellringer proposed, and Mr. King seconded, that Mr. Connett sliould .be re-elected. The motion was carried unanimously, and Mr. Connett thanked the Board for it 9 expression of renewed confidence in him as chairman. Mv. Wilkinson, v.'ho waß absent, wrote supporting tlia reelection of Mr. Connett. WORK AT THE PORT. Tho ordinary monthly reports were then taken. The harbor-master (Captain W. Waller) reported that during the four weeks ending on May 6, twenty steamships, aggregating 18,582 tons, arrived at this port. The imports amounted to 6373 tons, including 1830 tons of coal, 1310 ton 3 of which were for private use, and 526 tons for the Railway Department. The exports for the same period amounted to 1861 a. total of 8234 tor.s handled. The approaches to th 6 wharf and fairway show good water. The superintendent of works (Mr. F. Henderson) reported that for the four weeks ending May 6, the Paritutu dredged on' 20 days, the net time being 181 hours, and removed 45 loads of spoil equal to 18,000 tons. At the outer fairway with the sand pumps six days v/ere spent in lifting 15 loads, at the west [airway with the buckets 41 days were spent in lifting nine loads, and at the fourth basin cut with the buckets !IJ days were speYit in lifting 21 loads. Dredging was stopped for three days for the Easter holidays, and for one day through rough weather. The Thomas worked at the breakwater bank o» 18 days the net time being 105J hours, and removed 131 loads equal to 10,480 ions. The reports were adopted.
