THE ANZACS' NEW SPHERE.

At last the heroes of Anzae will haYc an opportunity of showing the Germans the kind of warriors that New Zealand and Australia can place in the field, for nearly one-half of tho Australians and most of the New Zealanders who have been sent to the West front have seen fighting at Anzae and Western Egypt. How eager the men were to be drafted into the troops for France is evident from the fact that nine hundred of the Light Horse volunteered for the infantry in a single day. The stirring address delivered to the men by General Birdwood will be read with much interest, and it will be seen that he placed his finger on the one tender spot of our men—discipline. While paying tribute to their fighting spirit and training, the General emphasised that discipline was the greatest and most essential quality for achieving success. His earnest appeal to the men to resist the temptation of drink will, it is to be hoped, strengthen the determination of even tho ,few black sheep to uphold the honor and reputation of the Australian and New Zealand forces so that when they return home after victory their reputation may be unsullied. Our boys are so well posted in the abominable savagery of the Germans that they may be relied upon to show the French people every courtesy. It is good for them to have to deal with the Germans, if only to teach such as survive the true meaning of the British Empire. They possess the true fighting spirit and may be relied upon to add lustre to the brilliant record of their work at Gallipoli.
