SHACKLETON'S EXPEDITION.

The Daily Chronicle says that 3ince no news has been received of the Eh> durance, steps must be taken -without delay to organise relief expeditions to both the Ross and Weddell Seas, but the difficulty is to find a suitable ship. There are probably not half-a-dozen in the world, and all would need considerable refitting. If the enterprise were commenced at once it would take three months to complete arrangements. The lives of forty men are in peril, and our national credit would suffer if, while erecting a memorial to the heroic dead, we lag in our duty towards the heroic living.
