INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) There was,a good attendance at the Red Cross Social on Friday evening. The floor was in excellent order, and the music, which was all that could be desired, was supplied by Miss Curd (piano), and Mr. .Stockman (clarionet). During the evening vocal items by Mrs. Birch-Johnston (twice), Mrs. Burmiip, and Messrs Haynes and W. Matthews, and a recitation by Miss Allen, were much appreciated, and encores in most cases demanded. The accompaniments were played by Mr. J. Sutherland. Before the gathering was brought to a dose, Mr. Hammerton, on behalf of the Ladies' Committee, expressed regret at the loss of Mesdames W. Matthews, and O. Sutherland, who are leaving the district. These ladies have taken a very keen interest in all patriotic matters since the outbreak of war, and will be considerably missed from the ranks of local workfrs. Mr. Leslie had the misfortune to lose a v„l ua ble horse last week. The Tiorse ha 1 bce-i in training for a time, but was sent home in a bad way, and on Sunday the friendly bullet had to be rcqiisitioned. The loss will be all the more keenly felt as a high price was offered for the animal quite recently. At the S.M. Court on Friday, in the f:-'iowiiig cases, judgment was given for plaintiffs: E. S. Nutting v. J. Rodders £•- 4s (id (costs 7s); H. W. Horner v! B. Hopkinson, 14s (costs ss); M. Martin and C. Ward were each fined 20s and costs 7s, and Martin 10s and costs 7s for not attending the training camp. Miss Evans has joined the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand, and Miss Winfield succeeds Miss Evans in Messrs. Percival arid Messenger's office.
