TARIKI,

A farewell social was held in the lta.ll' 011 April 27, to say good-bye for Urn present to Corporal Swanaon and Private Harrison. About 150 settlers were present. After a programme of songs and musical items, the chairman presented the departing soldiers with a wallet each, wishing them good luck, and a safe return. Supper and a short dance concluded a very pleasant evening. On Wednesday evening a reception was given as a welcome to the Rev. and Mrs. Richards in the Methodist Church. Addresses were given by Messrs Coutts, Therkieson, Fenwick, and Frewin, as representatvies of the different phases of church work in Tariki. The Rev. Richards replied in a manner greatly appreciated by the congregation. Songs were contributed by Mr. Havelock and Mr. Robinson, the accompaniments being played by Mrs. D. Jonas. Supper concluded another pleasant evening. On Thursday, the local Tennis Club journeyed to Toko, and had a good time, being royally entertained by the Toko Club. The scores were Toko 74, Tariki 70. The return match is arranged for Thursday week. The Anglican Church are arranging a social for Thursday next, and judging by the interest taken by the young people it should be a success.
