PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

| MONTHLY MEETING, The meeting of the Board was held on Friday. This being tlie first meeting since the general election, the returning officer announced that Messrs. Young (Oaonui ward), Harvey (Pungarehu), Hickev (Opunakej, and W. B. Smith (Warea) had been declared elected, and that there is to be a poll on the 12th inst. for the Opua ward. Mr. Jas. Young was re-elected chairman of the Board.

The chairman said lie liaid to report to the Board ofliciallv that since the last ! meeting the late foreman, Kennedy, met his death accidentally, and it would be necessary to appoint a foreman in his place. Tt was decided to advertise for applications for the position, to be in by next meeting. The Board adjourned for half an hour as a mark of respect to the late foreman.

I The chairman's action in appointing Mr Hill temporary foreman was confirmed. Foreman Hill reported on the work done and the state of the roads. A complaint was made that a cow and calf were living on the lower Waiteika road—Referred to the ranger.. The Egmont County Council wrote re enquiry into Oxford and Saunders roads, suggesting that the Board pay half costs of defence. The Board agreed to do so.

Mr. Moore wrote offering <i piece of land and house on the Opua road as a foreman's residence.—Not entertained.

Messrs. Young and Harvey were appointed to sign cheques, and in the absence of either, any other member to sign. The order of retirement of the first half of the Board was drawn, with the result that Oaonui, Opua, and Rahotu members go out at end of first vear.

A deputation of Maoris waited on the Board and asked to have Tfturu road opened, drained, and adverted. The foreman was directed to inspect and report on the matter to next meeting; also, that L. Fischer be given 14 days in which to remove a fence he has across the road, or the foreman will do so.
