THREATENING TO SHOOT.
. A WAREA CASE. On Friday evening a young man named 11. Brunsden was arrested at Warea l>y Constable O'Noill, of Raliotu, on a charge of intent to do grievous bodily harm to James Duggan, a well-known Waioa settler, by attempting to discharge a gun at him that morning, Aecined wa« brought into New Plymouth on Saturday and was charged before Mr. A. Crook,e, S.M., with the offence. Sub-Inspector Fouhy proseouted, and accused was represented by Mr. .T. H. Qnillinm.
The sub-inspector, in outlining the case, said that Brunsden-went to Duggan's front gate with a gun in his hand, and meeting one of Duggan's children, told the child to tell his father he wan wanted. The boy told his father, and, it appears, also said that Brunsden had a gun with him. Duggan then came out and brought his gun. Brunsden was seen to place a cartridge in his gun, which he presented at Duggan and threatened to shoot. Dnggan said: "Don't shoot, because if yon do 1 shall have to defend myself." Accused did not fire, and after presenting a revolver at Duggan he went away. The sub-inspector, in asking for a remand, pointed out that accused had only been arrested the previous evening. Mr. Quilliam asked for bail, but the sub-inspector considered that it was not a ease lor bail.
A remand wa* granted until Wednes. day morning, bail being allowed, accused in a surety of .£SO and two other sureties of £2"> each,
