THE RUA CASE.
MAGISTRATE'S COURT PRO' CEEDTNGS.

Whata Rua, charged with attempting to wound Constable Williamson and other i policemen with an axe at Maunga Pohatu, on April 2, was this morning committed for trial at Auckland.
The magisterial proceedings against Ttua'a followers finished this afternoon. Tiolci Hokaipori, charged with resisting and assaulting .Constable Fahey, and Maka Kurchi, charged with resisting Constable Williamson, were committed for trial. Both pleaded not guilty and reserved their defence. Bail was allowed accused in a surety of £IOO each and sureties of £2OO each.
The Magistrate said that he w.ould not accept Maori sureties unless the money was paid down. Two distress warrants against 'Rua, totalling £IOO9, were read to him, with the explanation that tiie paying of them would shorten his present sentence by months. He promised to send to Maungapohatu to raise the money.
