PEACE TALK.
FUTILE AT PRESENT. AMERICAN AMBASSADOR'S OPINION. Washington, May 4. Mr. Thomas Page, American Ambassador in Italy, reports that there is no immediate prospect of peace in Europe. He believed, however, that peace may come suddenly, and will probably follow a great victory. Efforts at mediation at the present time are useless.
THE DOMINIONS AND PEACE. London, May 4. Replying to a question by Mr. Steel Maitland, Mr. Asquith said there was no reason to believe that Canada and Australia were dissatisfied with the assurance* given with regard to their participation in the peace conference.
