WATERSIDERS' STRIKE.
HIGHER WAGES DEMANDED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Welington, Yesterday. The Petone arrived with coal from Greymouth, but the watersiders refuseil to work her unless an advance of 3d ar hour was given. The agents for tin Petone and Melbourne, which the mor refused to work yesterday, offered thi men to work the ships on contract. The men are considering the offer.
The Dorset arrived to load meat for Home, and the men agreed to work her at the rate in vogue as cargo under th( head of necessities. At the same time the union sent a telegram to Mr. Mas' sey asking him to use his influence t( obtain the same rate of wages at Lyttelton as at other ports.
