Royal Arms looked like taking n; ; \.v Brighton Hurdles when he broke doy.-i . Captain .lack could curry the gr.i.id stand and beat the lot\of the Auckland 'chasers at the present time.

fllenroy won so easily on Wed,ir , ?dM v -that fl.l does not seem a harsh impost i.i the Dominion Handicap to-day The Thames-trained filly Wuii.ta appears to be the Desert Gold of the Auckland two-year-olds at present, and is worth following, up North.

Rio (Irando lost one of las boots in his first start at Hawcra, but Charlie Gordon drove him home an easy winner in the Hawcra Handicap later in the day. The increased totalizator turnover at the trots was decidedly encouraging, and most of those who attended the meeting reckoned they enjoyed a good day's sport. Nancy Patch did not appear too sound after racing at Auckland, but she put up a good performance in the Eltham Handicap, beating all but the v.-inner, to whom she was giving 3sce, Nancy should do better over a distance. Tod Bells trotted as boldly as ever. but was set a heart-breaking task in the Hawcra Handicap. Considering tin track it was a fair "go," and the scratch horse had no chance of giving large slices of time to smart ones like Rio Grand* and Monsoon. As far as the writer could see only one horse was called off for anticipating the starter. This was Lavinin, who broke nvfav with Adams, and "beat the pistol" by several ticks. Mr. Thompkins starting was Al. Whoever told Mr. Rurangi that his half-draught, Nukumni,, could trot? In flic District Handicap, the neddy (on the limit), was about five furlongs behind in the first mile, and his rider wisely decided that it wan time to quit racing and get back to the plough once more.

Prinzora had the confidence of iiis party in the Manaia Handicap, and Barraclough had him in a handy position three furlongs from home, but the effort to get there had taken all the steam out of him, and he struggled on "dead licked," just outside a placi'. Up to a mile he is some good. All Hawera was talking Antwerp for Feildiug on Wednesday, and the "moral" won very easily, though the smallness of the dividend showed that tongues had been wagging too freely to please 3omo punters. Wednesday was Taranaki Day at Feilding. Antwerp hopped off by winning the opening event. Astor cakewaited the Denbigh Stakes, and to cap all Rewi Pnto squeezed home in front of Orleans in the Easter Handicap. Away from the course Lord Nelson was a hot order for the Oroua Hurdles, and the good dividend attached to the win came as a surprise. The favorite, Scrutineer, took charge five furlongs from home, but Lord Nelson came with a great run in the straight and won easily. The time, 2.4(12-5, was very smart.

Nearly a thousand of the best and brightest were lost by the Feilding Jockey Club in paying out over the Rewa Hack Handicap, bakers of Moutoa Queen and Tango getting a big slice more than they were entitled to. And the lucky ones went on their way rejoicing! Nothing but a shocking start t.'P.s responsible for Lady Louisa losing the final Welter. When the tapes lifted the field was facing all ways, and several horses took no part in the race, while others were stretched out like trotters in a district plate. Martial Air was the luckiest of tile bunch, and just kept going long enough to score by a length from Lady Louisa. The latter and Princess Moutoa were simply flying at the finish.

Feilding is Charlie Price's lucky course. Five wins came his way there thii week, while H. Young scored three; 0. Carmont two, and H. MeSweeney two; and R. E. Brown, A. Julian, O. McCarten, and E. Edwards one each.

The joke of the Auckland meeting occurred in the Oaks, won by Desert Gold, the riders of'the other scrags btipg before ' iStipj"- McMalwn

for not making morn use of their mounts! How does that tickle yoi\? Two ex-Taranaki prads, Mulga Bill and Grattan, won races at the Knmara meeting this week. Must bo select company down in wild and woolly Kuuiara—uli, what? Crown rear! ran a decent race in the Railway Handicap at Avondale, and there is still a good race stowed away in the old fellow. Will it bvat Hawera next month? The Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton was a case of Reval first away—and all the way. Another outsider in Findhorn was second, and then came the perspiring favorites, Flying Sttfrt and Emperador. The crack Lowry candidate, Tete-a-Tete, could only finish sixth. "Art, Crib, Bore." That was the telegraphed report of a h'urdle race at Riccarton. The whole story in eleven letter?. It takes some beating for brevity. Acceptances for the Egmont meeting close on Tuesday, May 4,
