TO' SAFEGUARD THE COUNTEY, , By Telegraph.—Press Association. > Wellington, Last Night. • The Minister for Public. Health stated that he has asked Dr. Valintine, In-spector-General of Health, to gore consideration to the report of the British; Royal Commission on venereal diseases, with the object of ascertaining how far the investigations of that body concern the New Zealand Commission, which has exhaustively _ studied the' question of "sooial disease," and copies of its report have been received here.

Mr. Russell added that in his opinion, the subject should receive immediate »t- : tention from the Public Health Department. He agreed with the Commie-' sioners that compulsory notification was impracticable, but there ' appeared no, ! reason why the State should not provide facilities for treatment of the diseases,! with the object of staying their ravages, and protecting the health of the COtttmunity, Two methods of dealing with the subject presented themselves; tha Department might establish stations where sufferers could be given treatment and advice, or it might ask hospital boards to provide suitable treatment. He thought that if a definite scheme were prepared the Government would probably be ready to ask Parliament for an immediate grant.
