WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent,) Waitara, Yesterday,
A large number congregated on the Camp reserve grounds yesterday afternoon in commemoration of the landing of the New ■ Zealand and Australian troops at Gallipoli. The Senior Cadets, Fire Brigade, and soldiers home on leave, headed by the Band, were marched from the Drill Hall to the Camp Reserve, where addresses were given by Revs. Ilintou and Harrison, and "Lest Ye Forget" was recited by Mr. 11. S. Tate, Before dispersing the crowd joined in singing, hymns to the accompaniments of the Waitara Municipal Band. A bumper attendance is anticipated at the social and dance which is to be given in the Clifton Hall on Friday evening as a farewell to those leaving on Monday to join the Kith Reinforcements, when all departing boys and soldiers holne on leave are cordially invited to be present. The floor is in excellent order and a very enjoyable evening is promised. Supper is being provided.
Tiie s.s. Dorset arrived in the roadstead yesterday afternoon from Melbourne to lift 15,250 quarters beef and 874 ,packages sundries. It is expected her loading will be completed by Sunday. The Rev. J. B. and Mrs. Hinton, who have recently been transferred to this circuit, are being tendered a welcome in the form of a social which is to be held in the Forester's Hall tomorrow evening (Thursday), and it is hoped will be largely attended. Songs, recitations, etc., are to be given, and on the whole a very enjoyable evening's entertainment is promised.
