Mr., Mrs. and Misses Gilmonr (Dannei virke), are staying in New Plymouth. * Sir James Mills will succeed Sir Archl. bald Denny as president of the Marin* Engineers' Association in London. Mr. Burgess, of the Briabane branch of the Australian Institute of Marine En. gineers, is on a visit to New Zealand. The Hon. J. D. Ormond has bWn confined to his house by illness for soma considerable time.

Mr. Edward N. Gray, New Zealand manager for Lipton's, Ltd., tea planter* and tea merchants, is on a business visit to Taranaki.

• Sir Maurice O'Korke has been reelected chairman of the Board of Gov. ernors of the Auckland Grammar School. He has occupied the position for nearly 50 years.

Mr. F. Foley, formerly of Dunedln, and latterly of Palmeraton North, lias been appointed to the man&gerultip of the Wanganul branch of the Now Zeat land E&press Company. •

Just before the last New Zealand mail left England, Major VV. R, Finwill. Liverpool Regiment, was ceiicj l General Staff Officer, first grade, Villi the rank of temporary lieuteiu-':-colonel while so employed. Mr. H. L. Baildon, of Messrs. Sar* good, Son, and Ewen, Neto Plymouth, has been posted as a n.e.o. in the 18th Reinforcements, and leaves for Trentharn on Monday morning.

Mr. G. Shepherd, Taranaki represents* tive of Messrs, Booth, McDonald and Co., has been transferred from Hawera to Palmerston North, having been appointed inspector for the firm in that district.

Mr. Thomas Trood, British Vice-con sul at Apia, Samoa, from the time-of the German annexation to the occupation by the New Zealand Forces, has just died, aged 83 years. Since ths British occupation, Mr. Trood has been assistant native judge His funeral wai very largely attended, amongst those present being Colonel Logan .and staff.
