STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Yesterday. Hugh Johnston, an old-age pensioner, aged 82 years, residing with his son on the Bird Road, was found dead in lied this morning. An inquest will be held. W. Bowson, a returned soldier, who was recently appointed Borough inspector, has resigned his position. Football has started among the small fry, and to-day half a dozen boys could be seen indulging in the game in Broadway North. The practice of playing in the main street is one that should be promptly put down by the author itie3 before a serious accident happens. The Anzac memorial service was held in the Town Hall last evening. The attendance was only moderate, and one would have expected the military to have taken part in the service, but this was an oversight that was apologised for later on in the evening. Revs. Pattison and Tinsley, and Adjutant Cook, of the Salvation Army, took part in the service. A fine choir and orchestra under the baton of Mr. C. H. Lawn rendered some splendid items. The service was a great .success.

The attendance on the Show grounds on Soldiers' Day has been officially declared at 0003.' Five of the public guessed 6000, and will draw for the handsome clock that was presented by Mr. B. J. Peters.
