AN AUCKLAND FRACAS.
MAORIS AND POLICE MEET. By Te'egraph.—Pr;ss Association. Auckland, Last Night. A collision between the police and about 40 Maori soldiers occurred at the police station ■to-night. The trouble arose over the arrest of two Maori soldiers who, in the afternoon, weYe taken in charge for using obscene language. A number of Maoris on leave from the Narrow Neck eamp made their way to the police station, where only two officers were on duty. Siib-Tnspeetor Mcllveney saw them from ih'ts house and reached the station first, when he advised the Maoris to do nothing foolish. Meanwhile, other constables were summoned. At the conclusion of the sub-inspector's remarks one of the ringleaders cried: "Is it going to be nothing or the gaol? I say the gaol." The answer was a general forward movement by the soldiers. Promptly the police closed in, some using their flats and others their batons.
