WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, April 24,
The s.s. Opawa arrived in the Roadstead last Thursday from Tiinaru. Her loading was completed on the 23rd. There were sixteen barge loads. The loading consister of 2372 bales wool, 352 packets and two bates waste rubber. The s.s. Dorset is expected at an early date, coming direct from Melbourne. A number of the local boys belonging to the. 15th Reinforcements arrived home last Thursday on a few days' leave. All are looking exceptionally well and speak in high terms of camp life.
Mrs. M. F. Newberry, and relatives of the late Mr. N. F Newberry, have the sympathy of a large number of friends in their recent bereavement. Mr. Newberry, whose death occurred last Saturday morning, was for a number of years Mayor of this town, and took a keen interest in public affairs. A concert in aid of the Presbyterian Church building fund was held in the Clifton Hall last Thursday evening, and proved very enjoyable, being greatly appreciated. Mr. Perkins, the newly-ap-pointed Home Missionary for the district, presided. Items were given by Mr. Pox, songs; Mis Bullot, songs; Mr. S. Tate, recitations; Mr. F. tandford, song; Mr. Ewing, song; Mrs. P. Roberts, song; Mr. Kent, song; Mr. Weston and Mrs. IP. Roberts, duet; Miss Rita Elliot, song; Mrs. Blair, song; Mrs. G. Knight, song; and recitations by Mr. Perkins and D. Tate. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. Griffey, who was-assisted'by Miss May Weston, Mrs. Fraser, and Mr. F. Sandford.
