STRATFORD.

SOLDIERS' DAY. From Our Own Correspondent. If a stranger had visited the show grounds on Good Friday, he would have thought that the whole population of Stratford was assisting to get the grounds and side shows in order for the great event of Soldiers' Day on Easter Monday. On entering the grounds the first thing that strikes tiie eye is a very large marquee fitted up as a "Rest Tent," where mothers and small children will be, welcomed and, if necessary, the "wee toddlers" will be taken care of while mother looks after the wants of the elder children. The committee are to be complimented upon this forethought in providing such a convenience for tired mothers. On the left of the Rest Tent is a shooting gallery, where patrons will be able to show their capabilities in ringing the bell. Next we come to the afternoon tea rooms, the produce shed having been turned into a very fine tea room that will seat 10(1 at a time. Going on one comes to a stand that ivill be occupied by an exhibition of chrysanthemums. Next is a sweet stall for children, where the Hisses Skoglund and their assistants will be stocked with those dainties that children dearly love. Next is a gpysy tent under the supervision of an expert fortune teller, who will illumine the future of all patrons. Next to this stall we come to a "Hoop La" stand, where those expert enough to throw the hoops will be rewarded with some valuable prizes. A large tent conies next, and in this sweets, candy, soft drinks and ice creams will be disposed. Next is another Hoop La under the guidance of the one and only Louis Hoffmann, of New Plymouth, who has kindly given his. services- for such a deserving cause. Alongside is the "Cocoanut Shy," and those who have such a terrible set on the Kaiser will have the opportunity of trying their skill of killing the Kaiser. There is also a dart board, where the young fry will have the opportunity of gaining some good useful prizes. Then we come to the, "Anzac Theatre." The large People's Stand has been turned into a large theatre, where the "Anzac Minstrels" will give a highclass entertainment, including comic songs, choruses, and a fine ventriloquial act that should please the young folk, and make even tlte older ones enjoy a good laugh. Leaving the Anzac Theatre, one can go right across the grounds, where he will come to a toboggan, a large structure that is sure to please the small fry. Nearby is another marquee whore fruit and ice creams and drinks may be procured, and in this connection the committee wisli to assure visitors that everything will be sold at town prices. The luncheon rooms under the grandstand have been turned into tea rooms, where a large committee of ladies and willing helpers should be able to cope with the wants of those in need of the cup that cheers. The "Anzac Hotel," under the stand, will be busy supplying hot pies, cigarettes, tobacco, etc., and all the wants that the male portion of the visitors require. One must not forget a very fine "putting green" where golfers will be able to show their prowess. Next to this is perhaps one of the most interesting side shows on the grounds, where patrons, for the sum of Is, will be able to guess the weight of the enorbullock that will be on view.
