NATIVE TROOPS ARRIVE.
PARTY FROM TAHITI, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, April 22. One hundred and fifty Tahitian troops, under the command of Sergeant Roure, arrived in Wellington by the mail steamer Moana yesterday morning. Ths men are of good physique, and are all natives of Tahiti and the adjacent islands. They presented a fine appearance as they 'lined the vessel's rails when she berthed at .Icrvois Quay. They had a great Teeeption, and responded by singing "Tipperary" and the French National Anthem in their native tongue. The recruits are proceeding to Rvdhey by the Manuka. This is the third contingent of Tahitians who have passed through Wellington en route to Noumea during the past three months. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) conferred with the French Consul (Mr. James Macintosh), and tendered the contingent a hearty welcome to New Zealand. Each man was provided with a free pass over the city tramways.
