FATALITY AT OPUNAKE.

ROAD DVERSEER KILLED. A serious accident occurred ,at. Opunake on Good Friday, as the result of which J. P. Kennedy, foreman of'the Parihaka Road Board, met with injuries that caused his "death. ; ;It appears that he was engaged in preparing a charge of gelignite, when sit prematurely exploded in Mis hands, whiol\. were frightfully mutilated. Assistance was at ince forthcoming, and Dr. Sloa.no, who happened to be motoring through, Opunakc at the time, stopped and dressed the wounds, the sufferer being kreught into the New Plymouth Hospital. Both hands were amputated on Saturday, but the shock to the system was t»o great, and he died-late the same evening. Deceased, who leaves a widow and family, had been foreman of the Parihaka Road Board for several years, and previous to that lie resided in the Inglcwood district. An inquest will be opened to-day.
