Letters from a Sydney resident on board the steamer Clan MacTavish give interesting details of the fight with the Moewe and tile subsequent movements of the raider. When the Moewe ordered the Clan MacTavish to stop the captain replied : "We are stopped," and simultaneously ordered the engine-room to open out to full extent. ..The Germans, discovering the-ruse, opened fire, and three shells struck the Clan MacTavish and a fourth passed through the engine-room, completely disabling the engines. The captain ordered the guns to cease firing, but the gunners, unaware that the Clan MacTavish had surrendered, fired a fifth shot, which struck the boat deck, and killed fifteen coolies. They found 250 other prisoners from various captured ships on board the Moewe, which ran across to the American coast and captured the sailer Edinburgh. The Moewe coaled from the captured steamer Cowbridge, which was then sunk with 3000 tons of coal on board. Afterwards she captured the steamers Luxembourg, Flamenco, Westbum, and Horace. Most of the crews of the captured steamers were transferred to the Whitburn, which proceeded to Teneriffe and landed the prisoners. ANOTHER TALLY. The Danish steamer Esbjerg, with wine' and coffee from France, aiifl bound for Copenhagen, has been captured and conveyed to Swinemunde. The British steamer Habbia has been sunk. Her crew were picked up. The Norwegian barque Olga was torpedoed. Her crew landed safely.
