STRATFORD'S PATRIOTIC CARNIVAL.

Monday next (Easter Monday) is to lie a great day at Stratford, wlien an exceedingly attractive programme of popular attractions is to be given on the showgrounds, the object being to raise as large a sum as possible for the Wounded. Soldiers' Fund. Tins worthy patriotic effort lias been taken up by the energetic and resourceful people of our sister town with an enthusiasm that is in every way worthy of the object in view. Moreover, it lays clffim to being a provincial rather than a local gathering, and the opportunity for assisting this worthiest of causes is one that the people of every part of the province should be both willing and eager to embrace. The cause appeals to every man, woman and child in the Dominion, and especially to the residents of Taranaki, whose patriotism has been severely tested, but has increased in practical expression according to the growth of the demands thereon. It is" therefore well in keeping with the claims of our returned soldiers that Stratford, as the most central town in the province, should arrange a g&therhig at wM(& raitdanti throughout Tara-

naki oan, if they will only regard the carnival in the right spirit, be present not only to assist to swell the Wounded Scldiers' Fund, but to give emphatic testimony to the universal determination that those of our boys who suffer through the war shall experience not only our gratitude for their bravery, but be assured of all the practical assistance they need on returning home again. By the time the war is over, all the money that can be raised for this purpose will be needed—and probably more—so that every shilling contributed will be of service. The Stratford Easter Monday Carnival is but one of many means of helping the fund, but we cannot too strongly urge that all the Taranaki residents who can possibly be present should do so. A glance at our advertising columns will show that a most attractive programme has been arranged, and visitors will not only be heartily welcomed, but will right royally be catered for. We hope Taranaki will rise to the occasion and make the affair a success worthy of the province.
