THE MAHENO'S FIREMEN.
UNION TROUBLES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Fifteen firemen and nine trimmers vent smith in the Maori to-night to replace the major portion of the present stokehold crew of the hospital ship Maheno at Dunedin. Four more men go down to-morrow, and they will replace the firemen and trimmers who were engaged at Southhampton. The latter belong to the Seafarers' Union, which appears to be viewed with disfavor by the National Sailors' and Firemen's Union of Britain, and the Federated Seamen's Union of New Zealand. The Australia and New Zealand Union refused to admit the Maheno's seafarers to membership, and decided not to allow their members to sail with the seafarers, and to avoid a hold-up of the Ma-in-no the Seafarers' Union men were paid off at Dunedin.
