SPORT ON ANZAC DAY.

To the Editor. Sir, —Your sporting' editor, "Moturoa," "flys off the handle" in this morning's issue re the action of the Canterbury Jockey Club in postponing their races on Anzac Day, and .nakca the statement that "most people imagined that the day was to be set aside in celebration of the gallant deeds of our boys v and was therefore a day of rejoicing.;' Xow, Sir. I venture to say that "most people" imagine nothing of the sort, but realise that the day is set aside not only in honor of our boys' great deeds, but in memory of those who have made the supreme sacrifice. Most families in New Zealand have been touched by the loss of relatives or fricnfls, and naturally to them a day of rejoicing would be sacrilegious. To show that others besides the "kill-joyy recognise the necessity the day as one of solemnity, I wouM draw "Moturoa's" attention to the announcement of the Auckland hotelkeepcrs thai they will close their houses from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Anznc Day. It is to be hoped their example will be followed by the hotelkeepei's throughout Xew Zealand. Now, "Moturoa," take another good iook at all the facts, and admit that the action of the C..T.C. has been rightly taken out of respect to our fallen heroes, and not, as stated by ./on. to meet the wishes of a biassed party of "kill-jovs."—l am, etc., * * XO KILLJOY.
