ANZAC DAY.
-.GATHERING AT THEATRE ROYAL. PROBABLE .VISIT OF MINISTER. Next Tuesday marks the first anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli Peninsula of tlie New Zealand and Australian troops, and the day will pass into the history of Australasia's part in the war as "Anzac Day." The occasion will be suitably commemorated 111 New Plymouth on Tuesday afternoon, a halfholidav be:-ng observed from I p.m. At the last meeting of the Borough Council, a sub-committee', comprising Crs. I'. E. Wilson, A. H. Johnstone, and W. A. Collis, was appointed to make arrangements for "Anzac Day." A circular was sent to all the Ministers in New Plymouth inviting their co-opera-tion, and a conference between the Ministers and the councillors was held. It was decided to hold a united gathering in the Theatre Royal (the use of which has been given), at 2.30 o'clock in the afternoon, when appropriate addresses will be given. It is proposed to limit the duration of the gathering to an hour, and as a large crowd is anticipated children in arms will not be admitted, and children under twelve, years will not be admitted unless accompanied by their parents. Returned soldiers, veterans, territorials, cadets, etc., will bo present, while the Citizens' Band will also take part. For the evening a concert has been arranged by the Mayoress (Mrs. C. H. Burgess). It is probable that the Minister of Defence (the Hon. J. Allen), will visit New Plymouth on "Anzac Day," and he will be asked to deliver addresses at the afternoon gathering and at the concert in the evening.
