TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") A final reminder is given to owners and trainers that acceptances for all events at the Waimate Plains Trotting Club's meeting close to-night at !) p.m. Hawcra telegraph office closes at $ p.m. The Easter racing carnival opens 011 Saturday, when the Auckland and Wairarapa meetings open. The same two clubs will race again on Monday, in addition to Canterbury, Feilding and numerous smaller clubs. The only racing attraction for Taranaki folk is the Waimate Plains trotting meeting at Hawera, and this gathering promises to be a most enjoyable one, horses being engaged ftom the principal New Zealand stables. The action of the Canterbury Jockey Club in postponing Tuesday's races in deference to the wishes of those interested in Anzac Day celebrations is likely to be received with mixed feelings. Most people imagined that the day was to be set aside in celebration of the gallant deeds of our boys, and was therefore a day of rejoicing. Under the circumstances the holding of patriotic race meetings could hardly be improved upon as a means of raising money to alleviate the sufferings of the Anzac wounded warriors. By no other means could so much money'be raised in one (lay. But the kill-joy party have now turned it into a day of sorrow, and being opposed to racing at any time, they seek to drive their pet antipathy home with greater force. The gentlemen who control the C.J.C. have gone right out of their way to meet the wishes of a biassed party, and it is more than the latter crowd would do if racing clubs demanded a square deal. Taking a lead from the Canterbury Club's action it seems probable that minor clubs will follow suit. The latest Sporting Review contains a good photograph of Dick .Johnson's son, F. Johnson, who is described as a promising horseman.' If he is only half as goodyiis his dad was away back in the 00's lie will be "some rider" sure enough. Reported that L. Traill has been en<j:iged to ride Royal Arms in the Brigli,mi Hurdles at Ellerslie. There must be something in being secretary to a metropolitan club! The. other day the Hawke's Bay J.C. received. 110 lees than 98 applications for such a position. The horseman, Len Noddev,

steered two winners at the Manawatu meeting last week. Bob Barlow has tired of Sylvan Dale, and the unreliable full-sister to Avon Park will in future be trained by her owner. The Masterton autumn meeting resulted in a profit of jflst over £1)00. •Mr. D. Praser, owner of Square Deal, winner of the Longburn Handicap, at Awapuni, gave £SO out of the stakes to the patriotic funds. (Kill-sport papers please copy). Sir Geo. Clifford's Winterbonrne, winner of the Punket Nursery, cost SOOgns as a yearling, and this was the first success achieved by the full-brother to Danube.
