HOW'S THIS?
To the Editor. Sir,—A correspondent in your issue of Wednesday last, who uses the nom-de> plume "Conscriptionist," aptly displays a force of character mainly composed of cowardice, especially when dealing with matters patriotic. If a man is afraid to sign his own name, then his so-called patriotic vaporing* are worth' nothing, except to Germans. Before "Conscriptionisf started attacking all and sundry, he should have been sure of his facts, and as part of the section (barmen) he "Germanised about," we strongly protest against his unjust statement, and can prove that in the Taranaki licensing district there are no barmen eligible at the present 'time. We thinkalso it is more or less the duty of the Press, before accepting correspondence re such a nature that they make themselves reasonably acquainted with the reliability of same.We are, etc., FRANK FORWARD, Imperial Hotel. H. A. LEWIS, Criterion Hotel. B. FAXTHAM. Grosvenor Hotel. T. HEYWORTH, Terminus Hotel. FRED. BRADLEY, White Hart Hotel. FRANK .HAMMOND, Red House Hotel E. AUTRIDGE, Red House Hotel. [We accept responsibility for the reliability of no statements made by correspondents, and certainly cannot undertake to investigate them before publication. That would be expecting too ■ much of the busy pressman. It is gratifying to know that no barmen in the Taranaki electorate are shirking their duty.—Ed.]
