NEW PLYMOUTH HARBOR BOARD.
MOXTIILY MEETING. The monthly mectiiijn uf the Board was held yesterday. Present: Messrs.' •f li. Connett (chairman), Newton Kinjr, E. Dockrill, ,J'. MeChiggagc, C. E. Bellringer li. Maxwell, J. Marx, and C. A. Wilkinson, M.P. An apology was received from' Mr. T). J. Hughes. Captain Waller (harbourmaster) reported that during the four weeks ending April 8, 20 steamships, aggregating 16,335 tons arrived at the port. The imports amounted to 44(il tons, including 1040 tons of eoal for private use. The export* for the same period amounted to 1022 tons—a total of o48" tons handled. The harbour was pounded during favourable weather conditions 011 the 11th inst. The superintendent of works (Mr. P. Henderson) reported:— ,j Paritutu. —The Paritutu dredged 011 22 days, the net time being lflO hours, and removed CO loads, equal to 20,400 tons. Details were as follow: At the fourth basin cut with buckets, 7 days in lifting 17 loads', which, with 0 lifted last month, has advanced the cut 400 ft. at a depth of 18ft. to 2!) ft. At the west fairway cut, with .buckets, 4 days in lifting 11 loads, which, with 11 lifted last month has advanced the cut 130 ft. at a depth of 25ft. At the outer fairway with the sand pump, 11 days in lifting 3R loads. According to latest soundings (he depth in this locality has improved over a considerable area Northerly weather prevented dredging 011 two day:-., during which ten buckets and 20 links were changed. The Thomas King, after being overhauled and inspected, resumed dredging on Starch 24 and has since dredged 011 13 days and has removed Bli loads equal to fiSSO tons. fieneral.-—Two hundred and eighty vards of gravel have been lifted from Mikutahi with crane and grab bucket Wharf repairs include five new waling"*' .and six new braces. The septic tank and other sanitary improvements at the' harbourmaster's residence have been completed. A letter was received from Mr. F. W. Marehant, consulting engineer to the board, stating that it would be impossible for him to visit -New Plymouth prior to his departure for England 011 April 15. The annual meeting was dated for May 10.
