THE MOTOR BUS TAX.
To the Editor. Sir,--Will you kindly give me space for a lew lilies in your valuable paper to protest against the action of our City Father.) in penalising ,the(inotor'bui owners by raising the license fee from £1 to £O. The motor-'bus service is of the greatest convenience to town and country people, while a costly business to keep going under normal conditions. In my opinion every inducement possible should be given to those who are providing ways and means for country people to come into town to spend their money, a matter of vital importance to the townspeople. I-f twenty more 'buses free of license could be put on the roads to bring people into town New Plymouth would be out of its sluggishness much quicker.. I question whether there is another town of a similar size in New Zealand where such drastic changes have been made. I understand that the timber merchants' wheel license fee is to be abolished. If correct, why raise ours from £1 to £0? "Both parties are trading with a view to a little profit and the damage done to the roads by the different vehicles would he probably equal. In any case, we are bringing the people into town daily, and mighty glad the business people are to see tliem come. We want to continue doing so,, and trust our councillors will'see their fray "clear to treat us a little more reasonably, and T believe they will, unless the war-profit fever has afl'eeted tllera in their public life.—l am, etc.. 'BUS-OWNER.
