MILKING SHORTHORNS.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. The council of the N.Z. Milking Shorthorn Association met at Palmerston North on the flth inst. Mr. James Grant, Woodville, presided, as Mr, Wright, the president, had forwarded an apology for absence. ' After routine business had been gone through, the' entries received for Vol. 2 of the Herd Book were considered and arrangements made for .judges to inspect them. The entries included 150 cows and 71 bulls foi Vol. 2, and one milking shorthorn breeder has notified the Association that he has close on 100 entries from his farm in the Waikato. Seven ii.'w members ,vere elected, . It was resolved that the entries for: Vol. 2 should be 'closed"'on June 30; and' to hold a meeting just prioi to the Winter Show to arrange for the final inspection of all entries. The president was heartily congratulated upon ';he success of his milking Shorthorn cattle at the New Plymouth show, and several members were also congratulated on the results of semiofficial testing of theii milking Shorthorns, one two-year-old heifers giving the necessary amount in seven and a-. half months, and 30011)8 of butter-fat in nine months. As- several leading shows were now inculding special classes for milking Shorthorns it was resolved to write to ask the other A; and P. Associations to do the same and' include classes in the schedules foi forthcoming shows, as the breed was entirely separate from beef Slnrthoriis, and the Milking -Shorthorn Association in no way wished to clash with the ordinary recognised Shorthorn, but haci in view the object of promoting a better interest by farmers, and 'inducing them to produce a dual purpose- animal.
