Silver, 29 3-16 d. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Wellington, April 11. The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, April 8. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):— Meat—There is only a small quantity of New Zealand meat available. Mutton —Canterbury and other brands than Canterbury 7Jd per lb; owes, 7id; Plate mutton selling at lOd, owing to a short supply. Lamb—New Zealand lambs, all descriptions, per lb 8?d, including this season's: Australian lambs, all descriptions, BJd; Plate lambs selling at lo|d owing to a short supply. Australian and New Zealand, together with Plate prices, now under Government control. Beef—Only New Zealand bull beef at the market selling at: Hindß 7d per lb: fores Cd; chilled hinds BJd, fores .7d. Butter—The market is steady. Danish, firmer, per cwt., 174s to 170s; New Zealand, steady, 102s to 1645; Australian, quiet, 158s to IfiOs; Siberian, a fair demand, 126s to 1345; Argentine, steady, 148s to 1525.
Cheese—The market is very firm. Canadian, firm. The stock is small, per cwt., 106s to 108s; New Zealand, market firmer, white and colored 103s to 104s; United States, firm, 100s to 103s; English cheddar, very firm, 114s to 116s; Cheshire, 120s to 1225. On April Ist the estimated Canadian and United States cheese stocks at London, Liverpool, and Bristol, 97,000 boxes, against 79,500 at the same time last year. New Zealand and Australian cheese stocks, London and Bristol, 28,000 crates, against 19,000 last year. Hemp—The market is firm, but not active owing to difficulty regarding shipment, although prices maintained. New Zealand good-fair, per ton on spot, £49, fair £47; Manila, new graded fair £54, coarse £SO. April to June shipment—New Zealand good-fair £47 10s, fair £45 10s; Manila, new graded fair £53, coarse £49. The output from Manila for the iveek ended Bth inst. was 26,000 bales.
Wheat—Market firmer. Prices have improved, but there is only a moderate demand. Canadian, arrived, per quarter, 02s Od. April to Maj shipment, 58s 6d; Australian, shipment in April, nominal, 04s. Oats—Firm market. There is more demand. Argentine, arrived, per quarter, 31s 6d.
N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE CO.'S REPORT. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency i Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: On Thursday, March 30, we held oui Autumn Bullock and Cattle Sale in'on; i. Kohuratahi yards, when we had a yard I ing of 1003 cattle, 1820 sheeep and 'thro | horses. We also held a clearing sale o( ! F. H. Symons's stock, which sold exceedingly well. The cattle yarded were in real good condition, but bullocks and 25year steers were quiet of sale. Never-' theless we quitted several lines,after the sale. Our next Kohuratahi sale will be held on Thursday, April 27. On Tuesday, April 4, we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when we had a large yarding of both cattle and sheep, and we sold most of the cattle and a good proportion ■ of the sheep. We yarded 512 cattle and 1182 sheep. ' Prices: 4-tooth wethers 23s 9d to 245, good f.m. ewes 21s Od, f.m. ewes 12s to 15s sd, good lambs 10s to 10s Bd. Store cows were yarded in good numbers and sold very well: Fat cows £9 15s to £ll IBs, forward cows £7 18s tc £9 ss, store cows £5 10a to £7 10s, small store cows £3 10s to £4 15s, 18-months steers, medium sorts, £4 15s, 18-month in-calf heifers £3 13s, to £4, 2i-year in-calf heifers £5 9s to £0 12 s od, 18-month empty heifers £2 17s Od to £3 10s, weancr steers, inferior, 30s to 355, weaner heifers 2fls to 355, Holstein. weaner heifers 4fis, good 55s to £3, 2J-ycar steers £7 2s, bulls £5 15s to £B. Our next Stratford sale will be held on Tuesday, April 18. On Thursday, April 0, we held our usual monthly sale in our Te Wera yards. Wc yarded 276 cattle and 350 sheep, and sold practically all the yarding: Store cows £5 10a to £7, forward cows £7 15s to £9 3s, 18-month steers, small and colored, £3 12s to £4 10s 18months empty heifers £3 to £3 7s, weancr steers, inferioi lines, 20s to 31s, 18-months in-calf heifers £4 to £4 16s, bulb: £5 10s tc £8 10s lambs 12 s to 12s 3d, cull lambs 5s to 8s 3d, 4 and 0-tooth and f.m ewes J!ts to 20s lOd, 2-tooth wethers 21 s 0d to 23s 7d. Our next To Wcra sale will be held on Friday, April 28.
