WET CANTEENS
♦i ■■ ■ ■ DEPUTATION TO MINISTERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. A deputation from the War Necessities Committee waited upon Messrs. Massey and Allen to-day to urge the establishment of a wet canteen, also 7 o'clock closing. The Premier and Minister said the military officers were opposed to the establishment of wet canteens. That matter and also the proI posed early closing of hotels are to be I considered by the Cabinet and finally by Parliament. The Defence Minister said he considered the establishment of wet canteens would be a great blunder. He would not care if the hotels were closed altogether, but there were the evils of the illicit sale of liquor and much worse, which should be dealt with first.
