SHORTAGE FOR SIXTEENTHS. The following figures were given last night by Major McNaught (officer in charge of the Taranaki district), relative to the position of Taranaki's quota. for the lGth Reinforcements:— Men No. Avail- Reable, quired. It will be seen that while only 144 men are required there are 175 offering, but there is a shortage of 45 infantry, which could easily be made up from the other arms of the service if the recruits would only forego their choice. Maor McNaught has received instructions to send as many infantrymen as possible into camp to-morrow (Friday), and those willing to go are requested to give in their names to the nearest Defence office. The Department wishes to get as many men as possible to make up the shortage in the 15th Reinforcements,
